Description
MAC (Multi-Access Catheter) is a 5 FR Inline ET Catheter designed for accessing the neonatal airway. It allows administration of surfactant without disconnection from the ventilator.Benefits of MAC CatheterCompared to conventional catheters for delivering surfactant, the MAC Catheter is better for distribution of surfactant. The MAC Catheter maintains a closed ventilator circuit, and benefits include fewer incidences of desaturation and no increase in the rate of bacterial airway. The catheter includes no increase in the frequency of endotracheal suctioning. Closed suction systems can be used by one person, reducing the need for the two or more caregivers often required for open suctioning procedures. Finally, closed suction is perceived by nursing staff to be easier, less time-consuming, and better tolerated by small premature infants requiring mechanical ventilation for one or more weeks.
