This material is more irritating to the skin and eyes in the presence of water. For prolonged exposures and signif icant exposures, consider delayed injury to exposed tissues. There is no antidote. Oral ingestion and signif icant skin exposure may result in systemic toxicity. The basic approach to patients with resorcinol poisoning should include initial stabilization of the patient by supporting the airway, respiration and circulation, and treating complications such as seizures or metabolic acidosis in the Emergency Department, as soon as possible af ter oral ingestion. Consider the use of activated charcoal if seen promptly af ter ingestion. If Inhaled If inhalation of this material occurs and adverse ef f ects result, remove to uncontaminated area, Evaluate ABC's (is Airway constricted, is Breathing occurring, and is blood Circulating) and treaty symptomatically. IF IRRITATION OCCURS, GET MEDICAL ATTENTION. In Case of Skin Contact Immediately brush of f excess chemical and f lush contaminated areas with plenty of water. Remove immediately all contaminated clothing, jewelry, and shoes. Wash contaminated areas with soap and water. IF IRRITATION OR RASH OCCURS, GET MEDICAL ADVICE/ATTENTION. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. Most Important Symptoms and Effects Exposure to this material may result in irritation to any contacted tissue, including possible burns, depending on the concentration, duration, and nature of the exposure. Skin exposure can result in allergic and non-allergic contact urticaria (hives), and allergic dermatitis. Ingestion can cause respiratory distress, and metabolic/hemotologic disorders (methemoglobinemia, metabolic acidosis) and CNS symptoms. May aggravate preexising conditions such as: eye disorders that decrease tear production or have reduced integrity of the eye; skin disorders that compromise the integrity of the skin; and respiratory conditions including asthma and other breathing disorders.
