Equine LifeChip
LifeChip Equine Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) Microchips offer a unique and unalterable means of identifying horses. About the size of a grain of rice, the microchip contains a passive transponder programmed with a unique 15 digit ISO-compliant number. Once in place, the microchip can be read by any Destron Fearing or ISO-compliant reader. Veterinarians administer the microchip using a specially designed, single-use syringe. Microchips provide an additional level of security for identifying a registered horse throughout its lifetime. They can also assist in establishing the identity of registered horses that have been lost or stolen. LifeChip is the only microchip currently approved for use in the USDA's National Animal Identification System (NAIS).
